CORNWALL-- Ten people were arrested between Jan. 8 and Feb. 10 as the result of contraband seizures in Cornwall and South Glengarry township, according to press release from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
The Cornwall Regional Task Force (CRTF), consisting of the RCMP, Canadian Border Service Agency, Ontario Provincial Police, Ministry of Revenue and Cornwall Community Police Service, made five seizures in Cornwall, two seizures in South Glengarry township and seven seizures at the Cornwall port of entry.
Under the Federal Excise Act and the provincial Tobacco Tax Act, five people were charged for possessing tobacco products not property stamped in accordance with the acts.
Georgina Lazore, 44, of Cornwall has been charged, as well as Curtis White, 42, Jesse David, 21, and Trevin James Curtis Sunday, 23, all from Akwesasne Mohawk Territory.
A 16-year-old has also been charged, but can not be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Police say one person from the Akwesasne Mohawk Territory is facing a charge of possession of drugs under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
Items seized included $11,240 in Canadian and U.S. dollars, 36,132 re-sealable bags and cartons containing approximately 200 contraband cigarettes, 1,804 pounds of frozen poultry, oxycodone, eight grams of marijuana, two snowmobile utility tubs, one Stealth trailer and one 2008 Pace cargo trailer.
There were also 11 vehicles seized, including a 2000 Chrysler 30, a 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix, a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up, a 2006 Chevrolet Impala, a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado Pick-up Ford, a 2004 Chevrolet pick-up truck, a 2002 Chevrolet Blazer, a 2010 Ford Ranger pick-up, a 2003 GMC Savanna Van, a 2001 Chevrolet Van and a 2007 Arctic Cat.
As a result, the CRTF is also looking for the public's help in locating two individuals who have outstanding warrants for their arrest.
