Cornwall Regional Task Force Seizes 'Illicit Poultry'

February 18, 2011 — The Cornwall Regional Task Force found itself in the middle of a fowl situation recently. Officers say along with the Canada Border Services Agency they seized roughly 1800 lbs. of frozen poultry that was smuggled into Canada from the U.S. They say the so called "illicit poultry" was found in a trailer and that officers also searched a Cornwall residence. Police say labels on the packages said the products were unfit for human consumption. Officers say their investigation is on-going and charges are pending.

The CRTF was busy all through January with a number of other seizures. From January 8th to February 10th the agency assisted in five busts in Cornwall, two in South Glengarry and seven at the Port of Entry at the base of the Seaway International Bridge. Officers say they seized 11 vehicles 36,132 resealable bags and cartons with 200 contraband cigarettes in each, a small amount of marijuana, some Oxycodone and $11,240 in Canadian and U.S. cash. As a result 10 people were arrested with five now facing charges. A 16 year-old boy, a 44-year-old Cornwall woman and three men from the Akwesasne Mohawk Territory aged 42, 21 and 23 all face counts under the Federal Excise Act and/or the Tobacco Tax Act. Another person from the Akwesasne Mohawk Territory also faces a count for possession of drugs.
