CORNWALL (Staff ) -- A man from Snye, Que., was fined nearly $60,000 for having illegal cigarettes earlier this month.
Trenton David was given the sentence in Cornwall court on Jan. 5, following an incident last April when OPP stopped his car and discovered 160,000 unmarked cigarettes.
He was charged with possession of the contraband cigarettes, and asked to hand over $59,780, in addition to paying $15,945 to the Victim's Justice Fund.
From April to September of last year, roughly 21 million contraband cigarettes were seized by government investigators, along with 82,000 illegal cigars and 12 million grams of tobacco.
