CORNWALL (Staff) -- The Cornwall Regional Task Force made several contraband tobacco seizures between Nov. 25 and Dec. 7.
Two seizures were made in Cornwall; five were made in South Glengarry and two were made in South Stormont.
These seizures resulted in the arrest of five individuals who are charged under the federal Excise Act 2001 and who also face charges under the provincial Tobacco Tax Act for possession of a tobacco product not properly stamped:
Cimon Arsenault, 29 from Quebec; James Cholette, 28, of Cornwall; Darcy Finner, 46, of Cornwall; Joshua Paul Tilley, 18, of Cornwall; and Shaine Robertson, 23, of Cornwall. Roberston was also charged under the Criminal Code for failing to comply with a condition of an undertaking given to an officer in charge.
These seizures resulted in the arrest of one other individual from Hamilton, who will be charged under the federal Excise Act 2001 and/or the provincial Tobacco Tax Act for possession of a tobacco product not properly stamped and for possession of cannabis (marijuana) under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
Items seized include six vehicles, two trailers, one vessel and 7,073 re-sealable bags and cartons each containing approximately 200 contraband cigarettes each.
