A judge was accused of treason during a preliminary hearing in Ontario Court Thursday.
Former lawyer Justin Griffin, standing before the court as ah'seh hodeeheehonto and representing a native man, refused to obey Justice Martha Zivolak's request that he take a seat in the body of the court.
Instead, he stood and disagreed with her decision that she couldn't authorize Griffin to act as a legal adviser during the hearing for Herbert Donald Tripp, who stands charged with a variety of firearms violations.
"You have all the authority you need to make this decision," Griffin said.
"This is an act of treason against your head of state and (natives)
Griffin sat back down at the desk and Zivolak recessed court to "re-order" things.
Griffin, who has allowed his law society certification to lapse and is embracing his native roots from his mother's side, has been advising several natives in court cases.
