Police seize weapon, $41,000 in marijuana

The OPP's Project Paradigm arrested one man and seized more than $41,000 worth of marijuana, dozens of cases of contraband cigarettes, a loaded rifle and several vehicles on Wednesday.

Around 12:30 p.m., Project Paradigm officers assisted by the SD&G OPP and the Cornwall Community Police Service Street Crime Unit executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant at a County Road 42 property in South Stormont Township.

The officers arrested a city man at the site and took him into custody.

A search of the property revealed there was an indoor cannabis marijuana grow opera-t ion in an underground area found on the property. The plants were stored in a buried container.

Officers also seized marijuana growing equipment and 60 cases of contraband cigarettes at the scene, as well as a loaded rifle, a motor vehicle, utility trailer, speed boat, and two camper trailers modified to smuggle contraband cigarettes.

A 35-year-old male, Kelly Cameron of Cornwall, faces charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking cannabis marijuana, production of cannabis marijuana, unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless use of firearm, weapon and ammunition, possession of property obtained by crime and failure to comply with an undertaking before officer in charge

Cameron was held in custody pending an appearance in Cornwall court.
