CORNWALL – The RCMP's regional task force collected 810,00 illegal cigarettes between Aug. 13 and 24, as well as 2,700 cartons of cigars and 300 kilograms of tobacco stuffed in garbage bags.

The Cornwall Regional Task Force made seven seizures and charged six people for possession of contraband tobacco.

Kenneth Simser, 40, and Kevin Bovin, 40, both from Cornwall, faced charges of having improperly stamped cigarettes, with Bovin also receiving a charge for breach of peace bond. Charles Jason Hill, 30, had additional charges of dangerous driving and fleeing from police. All three men were held in custody for bail hearings.

Two other Cornwall residents and one person from Akwesasne were also charged.

A few of the seizures were at local marinas and in partnership with the Cornwall police. Others were carried out in South Stormont, South Glengarry, and at the Cornwall border crossing.

The task force also collected seven vehicles, one boat, and a trailer.
