Police Officers in Court Today For McHale Accusations

April 14, 2010 CD98.9

A court appearance is set for today for a pair of OPP higher-ups related to accusations by prominent Caledonia activist Gary McHale of illegally influencing municipal officials. McHale says Deputy Commissioner Chris Lewis and a Superintendent obstructed justice by instructing officers to arrest him in connection with a protest at a Highway 6 smoke shop back on December 1st, 2007. McHale says he has emails to prove that was the case, despite not having committed a crime. He had laid a private charge against OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino for attempting to influence municipal officials - but the Crown dropped the charge in February.
