Re: 'Antiracism rally cancelled in Caledonia' (March 29)

Why was CUPE Local 3903 from York University at a Caledonia rally?

Why are CUPE members talking about racism at a rally over OPP disparity?

I cannot think of anything more provoking or hateful than calling someone a racist; yet the presence of CUPE members and others at the Caledonia rally Sunday were clearly there to do just that -- trying to turn the fight for fair justice into a race issue. Whether you like Gary McHale or support his methods, you cannot deny the existence of two-tiered justice and the spiteful agenda of OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino when it comes to Caledonia. The government mismanagement and mishandling of the land claim issue has become secondary to the erosion of a community and the lack of equal justice.

Good Six Nations people need to take their community back from the foreign and external provocateurs; Caledonia residents need to pressure the government to step up efforts to resolve native concerns; and both sides need to force the OPP to abandon their political agendas and start doing their jobs.

The OPP and Fantino need to respect the fact that the majority of people in this region are good, and most are just trying to live in peace and provide for their families; there is no room for bias, political games and personal vendettas.
