MARMORA — Local police are starting to crack down on possession of unmarked cigarettes — smokes deemed to be illegal under the Tobacco Act.
Monday, OPP officers from the Central Hastings detachment conducted a RIDE program on County Road 14, south of Marmora. Just before noon a search of a northbound vehicle resulted in the seizure of approximately 150 unmarked cigarettes in a Ziploc bag. The driver, a 48 year old Stirling man, will appear in Belleville court in mid-June charged with possession of unmarked tobacco, under the Tobacco Tax Act.
