(Staff ) -- A highranking RCMP official has weighed in on a controversial TV show that focused on the smuggling trade in the Cornwall area.
In a recent letter to the Cornwall and Area Chamber of Commerce, RCMP Assistant Commissioner Mike MacDonell acknowledged theCourage In Redepisode on smuggling "does not accurately reflect the reality of living and working in Cornwall."
According to a release from the chamber, MacDonell -- who's a native of the Cornwall area -- has asked that the gunfire references in the show be removed from all promotional tools on the Internet.
Mayor Bob Kilger and several other community leaders took issue with the written synopsis for the episode, which aired on the Outdoor Life Network in December.
"On any given night, if you are listening, you will hear gunfire in Cornwall," the introduction stated. "These are warning shots from brazen smugglers, telling the people of the community that they mean business. Everyone is fearful except for the RCMP's Sgt. Michael Harvey and his team. They're ready for these criminals and make a daily job of standing in their way."
Kilger felt the introduction painted an inaccurate picture of the community.
Chamber President Scott Armstrong said he was pleased with the assistant commissioner's response to the matter.
