Mohawk Liquidation vs Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte

TYENDINAGA TERRITORY — The Mohawk band council here will be back in court next week in a land dispute with a Tyendinaga businessman.
The lawyer for the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte council, Roger Horst, said the matter was put over to March 11 when council and Mohawk Liquidation representatives appeared in Belleville court last Friday.
Horst said both sides will argue the demand by band council that Clifford Andrew Maracle (aka Miracle) cease operating on the site. Last Friday Maracle and his company were ordered to to pay the band council $10,000 by March 10 — the next appearance in court — because it is operating on council-owned land, as previously determined by a court decision.
The dispute began two years ago after council informed Maracle that he had no ownership right to the property, having bought the property from Shawn Brant and his father — neither of whom held title to the property, the earlier court determined. Maracle appealed the decision, but was denied. He is now fighting a band order to vacate the property and has vowed to continue fighting his band council over the issue.
