Customs Act trial back in court

March 1, 2010 Cornwall Standard Freeholder

The Customs Act trial of Akwesasne resident Katenies Janet Davis is scheduled to begin today in Cornwall court.

Davis is charged with running the border without stopping for a Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) guard in 2003.

She also faces several charges of failure to appear in court.

Davis has often stated that as an indigenous woman she doesn't recognize the Canadian justice system.

Davis's daughter, Fallan Davis, is in the middle of a Canadian Human Rights Tribunal with the CBSA. She alleges the agency discriminated against her based on age, race, and gender.
