Haldimand County Councillor Craig Grice is looking to reopen discussions with the Six Nations band council on Douglas Creek Estates. Council recently passed a motion to contact Six Nations and ask if they would be interested in establishing a mutual committee to discuss issues surrounding the subdivision in the middle of a four year long land claim situation. Council also agreed if the committee went through, they would then invite provincial and federal officials to the talks to help with planning and implementation of beneficial agreements. Grice says if a committee was established, it wouldn't solve the land claim dispute but would open up dialogue that moves the county forward. Chief William Montour has already indicated he wants to meet with Haldimand in March.
