Shawn Brant facing mischief charges

February 17, 2010 Belleville Intelligencer

Three men from the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory have been charged in connection with damage to property near a disputed Deseronto quarry.

Sgt. Kristine Rae of the Ontario Provincial Police said the arrests came as a result of an investigation launched January after private property adjacent to the Thurlow Aggregates Quarry was damaged and altered, police said.

Napanee OPP issued arrest warrants for three men and two men surrendered to police Tuesday, Rae said in a press release.

Shawn Michael Brant, 45, and Steven William Chartrand, 34, are each charged with mischief under $5,000. Brant is further charged with breach of probation. Chartrand is charged with breach of a recognizance.

They were held for a bail hearing and released on a recognizance. Each is to appear in Napanee court Feb. 23.

Charles Edward Kloetstra, 38, is wanted on charges of mischief and breach of probation.

No further details were released and Rae could not be reached Wednesday for comment.
