No holidays for smugglers

-The Cornwall RCMP Detachment seized the following from Dec. 17 to Jan. 4:

* 6,750 re-sealable bags of contraband cigarettes

* 600 cartons of Motagne brand cigarettes

* 410 kilograms of fine-cut tobacco

* two vehicles

The seizures took place in Cornwall and South Glengarry and the RCMP assisted officers from Canada Border Services Agency, OPP and the Cornwall Community Police Service.

Arrested for tobacco-related charges were Keith Seyeu, 34, of Cornwall; James Oake, 51, of St. Regis, Que., who also was charged for failing to appear in court; Shannon Paul, 26, of Nova Scotia, who was also charged for obstruction, assaulting a peace officer and possession of a controlled substance.

Five other people were charged, but their identities were not released.
