Two Coldwater men have been fined a total of $4,750 for infractions involving an illegally killed moose.
John W. Silk pleaded guilty to shooting a bull moose during the closed season and possessing the illegally killed animal. He was fined $4,000 and his hunting licence was suspended for one year.
John Cox pleaded guilty to possessing illegally killed wildlife and was fined $750.
Court heard that conservation officers, responding to a complaint from their tips hotline, contacted Silk at his residence in Coldwater, on Sept. 29. Silk admitted to shooting and butchering a bull moose on his property on Sept. 23 and giving some of the meat to Cox.
There is no open season for hunting moose in the area where the moose was killed.
Justice of the Peace Connie Hartt heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on Nov. 24.
