Hamilton police were called to Iroquoia Heights Conservation Area yesterday after a man on his back porch said he saw a deer with an arrow through it.
Police responded to the area around 4:45 p.m. The park has recently been reopened after being shut down due to safety concerns over deer hunting by members of Six Nations.
Some from Six Nations say they have the right to hunt under the Nanfan Treaty of 1701, which gives them perpetual hunting and fishing rights in southwestern Ontario.
Brian Skye, part of a group doing an environmental assessment at the park, said last night said there was no one officially at the site yesterday. He said the study is still going on.
Police said the deer could not be found yesterday and there was no sign there were hunters in the area. Police said they do not know if the arrow is from a previous incident.
The park remains open.
