Land Claim Negotiations at a Stand Still
November 17, 2009 CD98.9
"Nobody ever said land claims negotiations were going to be quick and easy", that from a federal negotiator in Haldimand. Senior Federal Negotiator, Ron Doering went before Haldimand Council yesterday - he said they've gotten to the point where negotiations aren't going anywhere - and they need to come up with new ideas. He does insist that a "take it or leave it approach" will not work. Doering says they've offered 26 million for the Welland Canal portion, but Six Nations thinks its worth at least 500 million - if not a billion. He says talks stopped over a month ago with no date to resume scheduled yet.
