October 24, 2009 Belleville Intelligencer

A 50-year-old Prince Edward Island man has been charged after police stopped a vehicle filled with contraband cigarettes.

Quinte West OPP said the vehicle was stopped on Marmora Street in Trenton for traffic infractions at around 12:45 p.m. Friday.

“During the stop the officer noted that the lone occupant of the vehicle seemed to be nervous and acting suspiciously,” a police news release said.

“The officer searched the motor vehicle and located a box with 52 plastic bags containing approximately 10,000 unmarked contraband cigarettes.”

Police were assisted by the provincial revenue ministry's special investigations bureau. One man was charged under Ontario's Tobacco Tax Act.
