In early May the Chronicle reported that on April 17, 2009 Haldimand County Mayor Marie Trainer circulated an email to an undisclosed number of residents in Haldimand County asking the following question; "If you had the opportunity to ask Commissioner Julian Fantino one question, maybe two, what would it be?
In an email dated September 29, 2009, Trainer requested a meeting with Commissioner Fantino. Trainers email was brief and to the point. "Will you please meet with the 14 families on the 6th line, myself and maybe Dave & Dana Brown, a meeting would mean a great deal to them as they feel the world has abandoned them."
The following was Commissioner Fantino's response to Trainer's request for a meeting dated September 30, 2009; "I acknowledge receipt of your e-mail. Please be advised that due to very onerous demands on my time I will not, in the near future, be able to commit to a meeting. However, I have forwarded your request to the appropriate OPP officials for their disposition."
Trainer goes on to state in her email to the Commissioner that the following four questions were asked the most;
"Since the OPP Commissioner reports directly to the Deputy Minister in the Ministry, how would you describe the reporting to superiors and delegation or mandates by the government to/from the OPP Commissioner with in the reporting structure?"
"My question to Mr. Fantino would be as a property owner within the Haldimand track -what are the necessary steps that you will take to ensure that my property is not invaded?"
"Justice Henderson of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Hamilton, Ontario, in his ruling on the Voortman injunction case (Court File # 09/8301) on April 3, 2009 declared "the Plaintiff (meaning Voortman) has title to the Property and is the sole owner of the Property, that the Plaintiff has the right to exclusive possession, use and enjoyment of the Property: and that no other person may claim an interest in, exert any rights over, or claim ownership of, the Property. So, why don't police protect third party landowners and stop Six Nations protesters from interfering with and stalling and stopping of construction on land owned by third party landowners who have legal title to their land according to the Ontario land titles system by which the Ontario government says it stands and who have been given permission to develop that land by the Ontario government?"
"A consumer goes into any variety store to purchase a package of cigarettes or cigars. He/she forgets exactly what brand he/she would like to purchase because they are concealed behind cabinets and if you are so lucky as to know the brand and the store clerk says "we are all out of those" you have to guess which other brand you would like to purchase. Now doesn't it seem ironic that a consumer who is willing to pay full Ontario taxes for this toxic substance could be forced to drive a mile down the road on a Provincial Highway and see all the brands located on open shelves -in places we call Smoke Huts...Where is our local justice system in this-not to mention they are selling to minors? If that isn't two sets of rules - nothing is!"
In an interview with the Chronicle on October 14, 2009 Trainer has yet to hear from any OPP officials.
