Mayor should look in mirror – time to move forward

In a recent article in the Hamilton Spectator, Haldimand Mayor Trainer is quoted as saying that MP Diane Finley should thank Gary McHale for her re-election.

Interestingly enough, the same could have been said for the Mayor's race in the last municipal election.

While I do not agree with the mayor, it is absolutely not relevant and is absurd that the leader of this municipality would make such a comment on the heels of the election.

For the past couple of years we have witnessed leaders at all three levels of government continue to point the finger at each other for their failures. We have had three elections come and go and we continue to see very little in terms of progress. It has become old hat in this area to pass the buck, and I say the buck stops here. Stand up and be a leader.

Today, as the mayor, you must stop saying what you think the people want to hear, and start leading with powers that have been given to you by the people of Haldimand. Finley has been re-elected as out MP like it or not, and it is incumbent on you to make the relationship between our municipal and federal governments work together to better serve our interest.

I challenge you to bridge the gap, between our three levels of government, strive to improve the relations so that we can better be served, and thus effectively bring about better communication amongst yourselves and by virtue through to us as your constituents. It is time to move forward and be accountable.
