Insulted by the OPP's Officer of the Year choice

Published on Oct 03, 2008

The Sachem

I find it rather hard to swallow that whomever nominates these officers for yearly awards actually decided Inspector Dave McLean was worthy of being named Officer of the Year in light of the chaotic, prejudiced and for the most part non-existent, non-representative OPP police force that are to 'serve and protect' the citizens of Haldimand County. Talk about rubbing salt in the wound. Most of the prerequisites listed in your September 26 article which would qualify an officer for this honour are not fulfilled by this gentleman, nor anyone that is occupying a senior position in Haldimand County.

Role model: Well, I hope anyone who wishes to pursue a career as an OPP officer would choose to handle a volatile situation such as we have in Caledonia with a better upholding of the law.

Accountability: Hmm... we have seen no evidence of this.

Respectful relationships?: Well, possibly with the Natives that illegally occupy DCE and illegally blockade public roads; but I don't see it with the residents of our community.

The same could be said for fairness, and as for courage; the picture you displayed in your article is the first I have seen of this man or any senior officer's face.

In summary, any senior officer from Haldimand nominated for any award which exemplifies outstanding service to the community and its residents is an insult and a travesty, given the non-existent, one-way law enforcement we have received in Haldimand, especifically in Caledonia over the past 31 months.
