Real leadership will help solve all the issues

September 18, 2008 Brantford Expositor

The five main issues for Brant are the same issues that concern every riding in Ontario. Your sister riding of Haldimand/Norfolk faces these same issues, and it is time there was a plan to repair the economy and the issues related.

Aboriginal Land Claims: Openness, so the people can understand the circumstances surrounding the issues, both sides must be understood. Too long have the federal government's tactics of keeping people in the dark and feeding them like mushrooms created the frustration on both sides. The federal government must take responsibility and do its job, govern for the people.

Economy/Jobs: Too long has the bleeding of jobs in the manufacturing sector gone unaddressed. Action must be taken to not only stop the loss of jobs, but to restore the confidence in Ontario. To bring back the jobs, Canada must rethink its participation in economic agreements to protect the people and their jobs. Foreign ownership in domestic companies should be restricted and an economically viable alternative to protect Canadian Industries has to come forward. Would $1.37 a litre for gas worry you if you were earning a decent wage?

Health Care: Better understanding and co-operation with the health care professionals is demanded to resolve concerns of the public and their health and that of their families. More doctors, more jobs, better standard of living.

Environment: Tougher laws and stronger implementation of laws to punish companies convicted of polluting the environment. Cooperation from all levels of government is demanded so we can all work together and the monies used to fight the battle aren't wasted.

Crime/Justice: JOBS JOBS JOBS will help solve the crime increase. Give people a brighter future and they won't need crime. Justice must be bolstered; enforcement and justice must be directed to slam the door on crime. Let's return to the saying "Crime doesn't pay," because right now without jobs it does!

The federal government should be capable of working with the provinces to delegate control of the issues at hand concerning its people; to date all it has done is look the other way. These economic issues are all solved when the populous is working, feeling good about themselves and safe in the knowledge they have leaders who care more about the people and not their own jobs. Canada must regain the manufacturing sector and bring it back to Ontario and the rest of Canada. To do this Mr. Harper and Mr. Flaherty must GO!

Can anyone see the common denominator in all this? Absent government, a lack of leadership at the federal level. Mulroney, Chretien, Harper, might as well paint them all the same colour, absent government.

We need a leader in Ottawa that can make the changes needed for the people. A leader for the people of the people. We need a revolution in Canada to save Canada. Now is the time Canadians. Stop the bleeding!
