Two Protests In Caledonia

CD98.9 Haldimand County

Posted by Renee Berube

Argyle Street South has been re-opened after another tense situation in Caledonia. From one blockade to another, aboriginals and residents both took to the streets of Caledonia yesterday. A first protest was reportedly started by aboriginals after two Six Nations youth and a man were arrested in Brantford. Right after that blockade ended, town residents set up a protest of their own. OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino addressed both groups, stressing the blockades were illegal. On-going clashes have occured between Six Nations and Caledonia residents over the past two years, since aboriginal protesters occupied a housing development.
