A 38-year-old Ohsweken man arrested Monday at the site of a Six Nations land claim protest in the city was released on recognizance following a bail hearing Tuesday.
However, Dwayne Scott Maracle was re-arrested on outstanding warrants and turned over to the RCMP.
He will remain in federal custody until his next court appearance in Brantford on Aug. 11.
Maracle was arrested near a site on Fen Ridge Court in the city's northwest business park, where Kingspan Insulation is constructing a new headquarters and warehouse facility. Six Nations protesters say the land is under claim and want construction stopped.
BLOCKED TRUCKS
Maracle blocked two concrete trucks attempting to enter the Kingspan construction site and was confronted by police. A struggle took place and Maracle was arrested and charged with assault with intent to resist arrest, obstructing a police officer and mischief.
Police say he punched an officer in the face.
It was the first arrest of a Six Nations protester by police since Brantford was granted a court injunction barring native protests at city development sites in early June.
