The Nishnawbe Aski Police Services Board is warning the police service could be discontinued unless the Government of Canada get back to the bargaining table. NAPS has been negotiating to get more funding but the organization says Ottawa walked away from talks on Wednesday.

Shawn Batise, who is negotiating for NAPS, says this could jeopardize the entire process and could lead to communities exploring alternate policing options.

Last week, Kashechewan decided to pull out of NAPS because of a lack of funding. NAPS officials say a promised three percent increase in its base funding will not be enough to deal with the poor working conditions its officers deal with.
