June 26, 2008
Cornwall

An illegal licence plate led Cornwall RCMP to discover nearly $250,000 worth of fine cut tobacco early Tuesday morning in a trailer towed by a pickup truck in South Glengarry.

Twenty-four cardboard boxes containing 2,769 kilograms of tobacco were inside the trailer, which was registered in Quebec. The truck was leased from a company based in Halifax.

All property was seized by RCMP.

A 46-year-old Cornwall man is charged with possession of unmarked tobacco.

He also incurred several Highway Traffic Act offences.

Police did not identify the accused.
