I believe it is time that we come to a resolution on land claims and start looking at a simple solution instead of complicated ones, which do not appear to have been working. The dispute is costing this area and country money, time, jobs, economic growth and is creating an atmosphere of prejudice, hostility and resentment.
I think it is about time we take responsibility and take charge of our own lives. I don't think we can live in the past. If we do, we will perpetuate the past. We cannot change the past, we can only change the here and now and future.
If we are to move forward as a nation, I believe we have to be united. It is my belief that we were all born here the same, no one any better or any worse, with equal opportunity for all.
We need to come together and be united as one multicultural country, with one set of rules for all. United we stand, divided we fall. We cannot live in a land that is divided, with one set of rules for one culture and a different set of rules for everyone else.
My proposal would be that we take a vote that we all be united as Canadian citizens or we all are native citizens.
We then will all be treated as equal, with one governing body, one set of rules that we all live by.
If that is not a workable solution, then we separate and the natives get what they believe to be rightfully theirs. Then, we establish borders, and they become totally independent, responsible for their own territory, government, taxes, roads, education, policing, and economic growth.
