Wednesday's letter from Jim Windle, "City council has no right to take away freedom to protest," is so outrageous, I'm sure that many more Brantford residents will want to wade in with a response.
The mayor and councillors are duly elected representatives who are carrying out their elected duties. Equating them with Nazis is dangerously close to hate literature.
Why has it always been that non-natives trying to protect their rights and way of life are Nazis, when unelected native vigilantes who illegally blockade public roads and interfere with private developers are to be lauded as righteous saviours of native lands?
This quagmire that federal and provincial governments have created is no excuse for any group of native protesters to vent their frustrations on innocent Canadians and private enterprise.
The Haudenosaunnee Development Institute has no legitimacy outside the reserve, so perhaps it should limit itself to educate and levy fees on the reserve instead.
The good-neighbour policies that have endured for decades are being torn apart by these provocative actions by a small group of native protesters.
Our mayor and council are frustrated by these native blockades and they are demonstrating the leadership that has been sorely lacking by other levels of government.
I and many others applaud our council for courage and leadership. Keep up the good work, Mayor Mike Hancock, and don't allow yourselves to be intimidated.
