Letter to The Regional News

O Canada I stand on guard for thee.

Sounds good but who is I and who is thee? Think about it, those days are over.

Let me introduce myself. I came to Canada in 1960 at the age of 18 from Holland, to the land of opportunity, the land of the brave soldiers who fought and liberated my country, we love them forever and if you talk to the old soldiers they will ell you so.

In 1965 I became a 10 dollar Canadian, got married, bought a house, started my own business in 1969 and never looked back, I was proud to be a Canadian and loved Canada, I still love Canada.

Canadians have changed and not for the better. We are producing more garbage than any other country in the world and ship a lot of it to Michigan because we do NOT want it in our backyard. We brought in the big unions to give us good wages and pensions, we go on strike if we do not get what we want, we buy cheap crap from china and cars from Japan because our production costs are skyrocketing. Factories are closing or moving to the cheaper labour force. Where are we going to be in 20 or 30 years from now?

But now for our local pressing problems with our native neighbours who are stopping building projects and closing roads under protection of the OPP and both provincial and federal governments. All agencies paid for by you and me with our tax dollars and all we do is bitch and complain and do nothing. On the 2nd anniversary some of us who are trying to stop this nonsense arranged a trip to Queen's Park to have a peaceful demonstration and hired two buses, we had to cancel one for lack of interest and filled the other only half full. The week following most of these people had a visit from the O.P.P. and were questioned about what was said by whom to who. Where are we heading? O.P.P. to K.G.B.? Dictator government?

We also visited a construction site in Cayuga on April 22 where the natives were trying to close down the site. Everything went peacefully, the O.P.P. was there in full force including a white van with camera equipment. Another day in paradise.

After two years of disruptions with no end in sight, builders moving out to other areas, we are fed up.

As I said before I was proud to be a Canadian, but not anymore. We live in a beautiful country, are being bullied by an out  of control native community who are protected by our O.P.P. at a cost of millions of dollars. They (O.P.P.) became a drag on our economy instead of protectors of you and me.

I always believed it was our duty to vote on election days, federal or provincial and I always did but now, I really don't know who to vote for anymore. Federal that is. Provincial yes – Toby Barrett will be a good candidate. I believe in him. At the next federal election, I go fishing and who ever wins – here I like to quote Rhett butler in gone with the Wind, "Frankly my dear" … you know the rest.

Also a message to Ontario Hydro. Please clean up your discarded mess (parts of towers and telephone poles) by the Caledonia #6 Highway bypass so that it won't be so convenient to barricade the road in the future.

At the same day of publication of this paper, May 7th, we will have a public meeting at the Lions Hall in Cayuga at 7 p.m. All builders and some local government people are invited and anyone else who is as concerned as I am and willing to help us to do something abut this landclaim lawlessness. P.P.P. NOT INVITED!
