So Premier McGuinty will not alter his stance on negotiating with lawbreakers or on enforcing the law unless told to by the police (The Expositor, April 30).
These are the same police who, according to OPP Commissioner Fantino, have the situation "under control," which, apparently, means selective enforcement favouring the offenders and offering little or no protection for the victims.
I do not know what the official definition of a police state is, but this sounds like a pretty accurate description. Our elected government has egregiously abdicated its responsibilities; our local MPP is either unwilling, incapable or lacking any clout to influence his own party comrades.
In the failure to find resolution to the problems of aboriginal claims, there is plenty of blame to go around for all parties, not least the federal government, but this by no means excuses the province from failing to meet its most fundamental responsibilities to its citizens.
The incompetence shown in dealing with the economic problems Ontario faces pales in comparison to the utter lack of moral integrity demonstrated by the McGuinty government when confronted with blatant criminal actions. Our leaders have brought shame on this great province.
