A man wanted on attempted murder charges relating to an incident in Caledonia last year was caught by police yesterday near Morrisburg.
Just after 11 a.m. Albert Kirk Douglas was taken into custody after Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry OPP pulled over a Chevy Tahoe he was driving on Highway 401.
Douglas, 31, of Ohsweken is also wanted on two counts of robbery with violence, forcible confinement and dangerous driving relating to an incident that happened in Caledonia on June 9, 2006.
Douglas is being held in custody by the local police until he's transported to Haldimand County OPP.
As a result of the vehicle stop yesterday, Douglas has also been charged with possession of marijuana.
Gale Laborgne of Kahnawake, Que., a passenger in the vehicle, is charged with marijuana possession and obstructing police.
"This arrest should at least show the public that there is no two-tier justice or policing approach by the OPP to Caledonia as some have wrongly suggested," said OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino.
