The Caledonia Citizens Alliance, a group of volunteers who formed as a result of the ongoing land dispute in Caledonia are pleased that Mr. John Tory, Provincial Conservative leader, made a stop in Caledonia yesterday.
Jason Clark, a member of the Alliance along with a number of other community members met with Mr. Tory yesterday while participating in a round-table discussion focusing on the land dispute and the impact on the community. "The meeting was well received by participants and a number of constructive ideas surfaced," said Mr. Clark. "We are very pleased with the initiatives Mr. Tory has voiced." Mr. Clark added that Premier McGuinty has not afforded the community the same time and respect; in fact he noted that the Premier has not yet visited Caledonia since the dispute began over a year and a half ago.
The Alliance stressed the importance of a visit by the Premier. "It is incumbent that Dalton McGuinty come to Caledonia,' said Ken Hewitt, spokesperson for the Alliance, "The province owns a large piece of land here which is currently being disputed. Mr. McGuinty needs to share with the community and the people of Ontario what the future holds for this ever-increasing $55 million albatross, known as DCE."
The Alliance believes that the Caledonia land dispute is not a federal matter, it is a provincial issue and it is time the province shows some leadership. Mr. Hewitt added, "We anxiously await the opportunity to meet with Dalton McGuinty in the near future."
