The apartheid system used in South Africa was based on the native reservation system used by the Canadian and American governments. With the Six Nations it was supposed to be government to government because the Six Nations were allies not wards of the crown as was most native nations under the Indian Act.
Maybe the Expositor could do everyone a favour and do a feature on Chapter 25 of the Canadian Charter Of Rights And Freedoms with expert opinions on what chapter 25 means today.
If more people knew of this legislation maybe more people would understand why the natives are frustrated by the lack of meaningful dialogue with the federal government. Thank you.
