About 50 people attended a demonstration Saturday in support of a Hamilton police officer being investigated for his outspoken criticism of the Caledonia native occupation.
Caledonia resident Constable David Hartless did not attend the protest in Haldimand organized by a group of his neighbours and other supporters.
Protesters gathered on the steps of the OPP station in Cayuga around 2 p.m. Some waved Canadian flags and others carried placards condemning OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino and calling for free speech.
Hartless wrote Premier Dalton McGuinty criticizing the province and the OPP for lack of leadership in Caledonia.
A discreditable conduct investigation was launched after Fantino complained to the Hamilton Police Service.
