The most unpredictable story ever

Where's Bettee Giles when you need her? The native occupation of Caledonia's Douglas Creek subdivision marked its infamous one-year anniversary this week with no end in sight. Who could have predicted a year ago that:

  1. A splinter group of Six Nations residents acting unilaterally without the support of their council or the hereditary chiefs would even consider blocking a major construction project on their own?
  2. That the OPP would let them without being arrested on the spot for trespassing?
  3. That the provincial government would use its cheque book to try and buy its way out of the problem?
  4. That the federal government would ignore the problem?
  5. That one could be arrested for erecting a Canadian flag on public property?
  6. That after nearly 400 years the Iroquois want to be called Haudenosaunee?
  7. That our mayor could be re-elected after having "put her foot in her mouth" yet our councilor suffers defeat for "doing nothing"?

Stay tuned for another year or so. Who know, we might just make Jerry Springer, yet.
