Re: 'Six Nations women lay claim to windmills' (Aug. 19)
As if the Caledonia standoff or Ipperwash wasn't enough, the native Canadian hijacking continues. First and foremost, Kahentinetha Horn says Canada has allowed native land and resources to be stolen. I am stunned by her audacity. Perhaps she is not aware of the troops Canada has sent abroad to many major wars and peacekeeping missions to protect her "stolen" land's freedom? Perhaps she is not aware of the numerous concessions Canada makes for native? Perhaps she is not aware of the numerous benefits -- tax free status being one obvious one -- that natives receive.
Horn states that "Canada is stealing another resource, the wind." I suppose I should ask her for permission to breath her precious air she lays claim to. I wonder how much she would charge me for this glorious privilege, should she so kindly bestow it upon me.
Horn also says: "Thanks for the windmills ... The windmills are on our property. It's ours. You'll just have to keep your hands off them and talk to us about it."
I suppose the entire population of Canada should hand over the keys to their homes and vacate the country, seeing as the land (at some time or another) was native property. Key word: "was."
I am disgusted with the way native Canadians take for granted all the benefits they receive, yet try to take more and more private property, claiming it is theirs based on a 222 year old agreement.
Native Canadian is an interesting term. They certainly are of native Indian origin, yet they claim they are not governed by the laws of Canada; so does the suffix of Canadian apply then? I'm not sure anymore.
I have a fabulous solution to this problem. Perhaps the federal government should hand over the title to all of Canada to Horn and her fellow native people. I would be delighted to never have to pay taxes again. However, I wonder how the social systems would still stay in place?
I suppose Horn could write the cheques, defend the country, pave the roads, grow the food and provide everything else for all Canadians.
