Aboriginal rally targets Quebec

HULL, Que. -- Tents, teepees and trailers are set up outside the headquarters of the Indian and Northern Affairs office in Hull, Que., today as aboriginal groups settle in for what could be a long protest.

More than a thousand First Nations people have come from all over Quebec to protest the provincial government's treatment of off-reserve natives.

Organizers promise the demonstration will grow as groups from across the country move in. Up to 3,000 people are expected.

The Confederation of Aboriginal People of Canada's Guillaume Carle says natives living off-reserve want the same benefits as refugees and immigrants. He says the protesters will stay until the government fixes the problem.
