CALEDONIA, Ont. -- Police say the situation is quiet today at the site of an aboriginal land dispute near Hamilton, after a melee Sunday night.
Tensions flared in Caledonia after provincial police officers -- apparently new to the area -- turned their cruiser into a no-go area.
That led to a confrontation involving police, aboriginals and area residents.
OPP Const. Paula Wright says authorities are investigating a car fire and two assaults stemming from the incident.
There are few details, but Wright says none of the incidents involved police.
She says the situation now is "very calm."
Aboriginals began occupying a housing development in the community in February, arguing it's on land stolen from them more than 200 years ago.
