While the RCMP does not have a policy to negotiate with protesters, local detatchments can make that decision in the interest of safety.
That's the response the Mounties have to complaints over how they handled a blockade yesterday on the bridge near Battleford. Protesters from the Poundmaker reserve stopped traffic in ten minute intervals. All in support of the Six Nations protesters in caledonia Ontario
RCMP Seargent Brian Jones told CKOM's John Gormley, that while it is not the official policy, the local detatchment made a tactical decision to negotiate the ten minute interval with the Poundmaker protesters.
Two of the protesters were given tickets for impeding traffic. Jones says he does not know whether those tickets were issued at the start - or end - of the blockade.
