Alleged Cigarette Offender Arrested by the RCMP

Rouyn-Noranda, monday, July 21, 2008 – Thursday, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, assisted by the Sûreté du Québec, arrested a Val d’Or resident believed to be involved in the sale of cigarettes not stamped in accordance with the Excise Act, 2001.

After they arrested the suspect, the police officers executed a search warrant at his residence, where they found and seized 50,000 cigarettes, approximately 32 ounces of marihuana buds, $2,000 in cash and a vehicle.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police would like to invite the local population to report any information on the illicit activities of individuals or groups of individuals to the federal police investigators of the Abitibi-Témiscamingue–Nouveau-Québec Regional Detachment in Rouyn-Noranda at 819-797-2120, or toll free in the region at 1-800-472-4282.
