1,390,000 Contraband Cigarettes Seized From a Cornwall Residence

May 2, 2007

(Cornwall, Ontario) On April 26th, 2007, at 4:00 p.m., officers from the Central St. Lawrence Valley RCMP detachment attended a residence located on Fourth Street in Cornwall, Ontario and seized 6,950 re-sealable bags of contraband cigarettes that were located inside the house. This represents a total of 1,390,000 cigarettes that were manufactured in the United States and smuggled into Canada. This investigation continues and no charges have been made before the court.

Cigarettes made in the United States are often stored in warehouses before they are transported across Canada. The RCMP will continue to gather intelligence and work with the many law enforcement agencies to disrupt the criminal organizations that are profiting from the illegal tobacco trade.
