(Cornwall, Ontario, September 19, 2006) On September 14th , 2006, at 3:00 p.m., members of the Canadian Border Services Agency performed a secondary inspection on a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix that was entering Canada at the Cornwall Island Port of Entry in Cornwall, Ontario. The female driver and vehicle were searched and 3.5 grams of a substance believed to be cocaine wrapped in eight individual packages was located. Officers from the Central St. Lawrence Valley RCMP Detachment were contacted to continue the investigation. A 38 year old female resident of Delormier Road in Akwesasne, Ontario was arrested and will be charged with possession of a controlled substance under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act. She will appear at the Cornwall Provincial Court on October 30th, 2006. The Canadian Border Services Agency seized the vehicle which is owned by 28 year old male resident of Delormier Road in Akwesasne, Ontario.
During a second incident, an officer from the Cornwall Community Police Services stopped a 1998 Chevrolet Malibu car during a Highway Traffic Act investigation at 8:45 p.m. in Cornwall, Ontario. As the officer approached the vehicle, he observed a large quantity of contraband cigarettes in the rear seat area of the car. Officers from the Central St. Lawrence Valley RCMP Detachment were contacted and they attended the scene to arrest the driver and seize the vehicle with the illegal cigarettes. Located in the vehicle were 170,000 contraband cigarettes packaged in clear re-sealable bags. The 33 year old male driver, a resident of Guy Street in Cornwall, Ontario was arrested and will be charged under section 32(1) of the Excise Act 2001 (unlawful possession of a tobacco product that was not stamped in accordance with the provisions of the Excise Act 2001). He will appear at the Cornwall Provincial Court on November 6th, 2006. The vehicle is owned by an Auto Sales dealer located on Pitt Street in Cornwall, Ontario.
