PC Government Will Bring End to Two-Tier Justice System

QUEEN’S PARK - One day following a protest of Caledonia residents at Queen’s Park, Premier Dalton McGuinty and Progressive Conservative leader John Tory reacted to the resident’s call for a resolution to the dispute in decidedly different ways.

While the Premier focused his efforts yesterday on banning the social networking website, Facebook, from government offices, Tory addressed the need for one rule of law for everyone in Ontario in a speech to the Ontario Association of Police Services Boards Convention.

Tim Hudak, MPP for Erie-Lincoln, applauded Tory for showing real leadership on the issue of law and order, and supported the PC three-pronged plan to restore “one law for all” in Ontario.

“Over the last 14 months, we have seen the vital Canadian value of equal treatment under the law violated in Caledonia with other similar incidences popping up across the province," Hudak said. "John Tory and the Ontario PCs will ensure that we choose equality for all under the law not two-tier justice."

In his speech, Tory said a PC government would ensure “one law for all” by focusing on three principles:

* The first principle is that no one should be beneath the law. A PC government will protect the poor, the disenfranchised and the vulnerable under the same law as everyone else, and ensure they have equitable access to justice.
* The second principle is that no one should be above the law. A PC government will be prepared to vigorously pursue new tools and new measures to ensure all parties comply with the rule of law, whether it is regarding a political protest, a labour dispute or any other issue.
* The third principle is that no one should be beyond the law, whether it’s organized crime, gangs or white-collar criminals. In the case of white-collar crime, a PC government would get serious about investigating, prosecuting and adjudicating securities fraud and other white-collar crimes.
