Caledonia/Six Nations— “Premier McGuinty’s refusal to accept my invitation to come to Caledonia and Six Nations exemplifies the vacuum of leadership on the land dispute”—Barrett
As tensions continued in Caledonia, MPP Toby Barrett slammed Premier McGuinty for refusing to visit, failing to communicate with people in the area on the negotiations, and declining to take a leadership role in resolving the dispute.
“There has been a vacuum of leadership on the Caledonia-Six Nations land dispute,” Barrett said as he searched for his car last seen yesterday trapped between the two barricades on Argyle Street. “Regrettably, leadership roles are filled by people on the street.”
“Last week I invited Premier McGuinty and his Cabinet to come to Caledonia and Six Nations, but regrettably he was a no-show.” Barrett continued. “His refusal to visit the area is mirrored by his refusal to keep people informed.”
Barrett made his remarks on Argyle Street, as he and PC Leader John Tory spent the morning on the ground speaking with people in Caledonia and at the occupied site. Barrett has been encouraging concerned residents to phone Premier McGuinty at: (416) 325-1941.
“People continue to ask the same question- where is McGuinty?” Barrett concluded. “This morning marked John Tory’s third visit to Caledonia and the barricades”
