Barrett says Liberal government confused about who is in charge
Queen’s Park—Yesterday in the Legislature, MPP Toby Barrett continued to press for a comprehensive strategy to properly route and inform motorists in and around Caledonia.
“Last week I asked you questions about the detours around Caledonia, provincial Highway 6, and you did not answer,” Barrett told the Minister of Transportation. “Minister, will you inform this House and the drivers in the Caledonia area what you’re doing to facilitate the movement of vehicles, not only around the periphery of Caledonia, but also within Caledonia?”
Again this week, the Minister of Transportation refused to answer both questions. In protest, MPP Bob Runciman raised a point of order, saying “This was all dealing with transportation issues, and the Minister responsible should respond and comply with the standing orders.”
After much confusion, the Minister Responsible for Aboriginal Affairs responded on behalf of the Minister of Transportation, without actually addressing the question.
“As you can appreciate, they are having difficulties negotiating these roads across Haldimand County,” Barrett told the Minister of Transportation in his second question. “This is your responsibility, Minister, and we ask for some leadership on this roads issue.”
Again the Minister did not answer.
“Today’s display of confusion only proves who is really in charge of the roads around Caledonia,” Barrett said outside the Legislature. “Nobody.”
