Transport Minister refuses to address Caledonia woes: Barrett

Minister ducks two questions in the Legislature

Queen’s Park— Twice during Wednesday’s Question Period, Ontario’s Minister of Transportation, Harinder Takhar, refused to answer questions about the traffic problems around Caledonia.

“As you would know, Minister, Caledonia’s main thoroughfare, Argyle Street, is blocked. Provincial Highway 6 is blocked,” Barrett told the Minister.  “What are you doing, Minister of Transportation, to ensure the proper routing of traffic around Caledonia?”

The Minister refused to answer, instead bouncing the question to the Minister Responsible for Aboriginal Affairs.

“These are questions I’m getting from motorists, from truckers, e-mails I’m getting,” Barrett told Minister Takhar.  “My questions solely focus on issues around signage; traffic routing; narrow back roads; the overloading of bridges; Nanticoke industrial park, there’s a problem of access.”

Again, the Minister of Transportation refused to answer.

After Question Period, Barrett reiterated that this provincial government has no plan and has turned its back on Caledonia.  “We can’t go out ourselves and put cardboard signs on trees to direct tourists and other travelers on our back roads,” he said.
