Mayor Trainer lies to Public and supports ending Free Speech
Oct 4, 2006
It appears these days that even the Mayor for Haldimand County has become your typical politician who lies to the public and tries to control Free Speech.

To statements by Mayor Trainer in today's Brantford Expository:

"Haldimand Mayor Marie Trainer said McHale hasn’t even asked for a permit.. 'He’s been told he does need a permit and he’s had lots of time to ask for one,' said Trainer."

"Trainer added that she was pleased that Brantford had “stepped up to the plate” in a decision to deny a municipal venue to McHale for his meeting."

See email below which shows that I have talked to the county to get a permit and was told they did not have the time. In fact we were told in this email that even if they had received our request for a permit back on Sept. 8th they still would not have the time.

I know people don't want me to say anything bad about Mayor Trainer but this site is committed to the truth and to expose any and all politicians who lie to us. Mayor Trainer you lied and you should apologize to the public for this lie.

Mr. McHale:

If you intend to use a County road, or any other County property or facilities for your event, you need a special events permit. Background information for the permit application is on our website (click on the 'Community Services' tab at the top, then click on 'Volunteer and Community Development' on the left side of the page, which will lead you to the PDF documents entitled ' Special Events Guidelines' and 'Special Event Application' or click on the link below). In reviewing this information you will discover that we require quite a bit of lead time to process permit applications and you should be aware that if October 15th is your target date for this event, there is not enough time to process your application and take it before Council for approval. In fact, even if you had applied on the date you announced your march, which I believe was September 8th according to your website, there still would not have been enough time to process your application.

Yours Truly, B. Hugh Hanly
General Manager Community Services

"Trainer added that she was pleased that Brantford had “stepped up to the plate” in a decision to deny a municipal venue to McHale for his meeting."

So we now know Mayor Trainer's view on Political Free Speech. She believes that a mayor has the authority to override our constitutional right to Free Speech. Mayor Trainer appears to share Mayor Mike Hancock's view that they have the right to preview someone's political views and determine which views are acceptable for public hearing.

This is just further proof of how wide spread the problem is. Many of our political leaders believe they have some God-given power to override people's rights. They and they alone determine what the public is allowed to know and express.

I believe Mayor Trainer should step forward and immediately retract her statements about supporting Mayor Hancock.

Mayor Trainer do you or do you not support Free Speech?
