OPP join with Natives to pressure Lions Hall to stop Meetings
Oct 5, 2006
We had our public meeting last night in Cayuga at the local Lions Hall.

We were told by the people who ran the hall that they had received several phone calls from pro-Native people trying to pressure them to cancel our booking. I am happy to say that this Lions Hall did not cave into this pressure and we had a great meeting.

We were also told by one of the managers of the Hall that he personally was called by the OPP about the meeting. The OPP expressed their opinion that there may be violence at the meeting and asked whether the Lions Club should reconsider allowing the event to take place.

What is interesting to us is that if the OPP truly believed there could be violence then why did they not stop by at anytime during the meeting?

Furthermore, we were told that when this manager told the OPP the event would be allowed to continue the OPP then tried to tell this person that there could be legal implications as a result of this meeting. I am not sure whether that was to mean by the OPP or pro-Native people.

How far Canada has sunk that a police force, which knows the March is against them, attempts to stop Political Free Speech. We now clearly have an example of the OPP directly attempting to intimidate citizens so that the people of Ontario cannot hear our Political message.

This is illegal. This is a direct attack on our Constitution and on our Democracy.

The OPP can try to spin this anyway they want about being concerned for public safety, but we all know that they do not care one bit for the public safety of the people of Ipperwash and Caledonia. They care a lot about protecting their butts.

If the OPP were so concerned they should have posted two officers at the Hall. It is their job to ensure public safety so where were they?

The officer who phoned to intimidate the Lions Hall and illegally violate our Constitutional rights should be FIRED.
